Visits and follow-up

# Find out what happens after the assessment.

A useful visit plan leaves room for your questions and for a decision that may not involve medicine. Read the later-care terms while comparing the first fee.

## Match the care moment to its cost question

### Before the visit

Bring your medicine list. Set aside any test results you have and jot down what you want to ask.

Ask what is due for the assessment itself.

### During the assessment

Describe what brought you there and ask the doctor or nurse to explain the options in ordinary words.

Ask whether proposed tests and result review have separate charges.

### Before leaving

Ask how to raise another question, get a copy of the plan and arrange the next review.

Ask which charges repeat, how often you pay them and how to end a membership.

Leave a separate line on the quote for later reviews.

## Can care begin online?

A controlled drug has extra rules because it can be misused.

For non-controlled drugs, federal law had no general demand for an earlier in-person exam before remote prescribing in September 2026.

State rules and the needs of a proper assessment still apply.

Compare an online service whose staff are licensed to provide care with a practice you visit in person. Ask which can assess your concern and what that assessment costs.

## A screen still needs a real assessment

### Room for a reply

The state groups that license doctors have a national organization. Its name is the Federation of State Medical Boards.

Its prescribing guidance says choosing a treatment from a menu cannot replace a proper assessment. The group adopted that guidance in May 2026. The guidance also requires a way for you to send your own questions to the person providing your care.

It is board guidance, not a single law binding every state.

### Room to change the setting

In its telehealth policy, the group says a doctor must refer the patient for needed hands-on care that cannot happen remotely.

Ask how a handoff to local care would work, including records and any further charges.

## Get the follow-up promise onto paper

- Who reviews progress before another prescription?

- Which messages are part of the fee?

- How can I tell the doctor or nurse about a new concern?

- What will remain payable if I pause or stop?

- Can I have the cancellation terms to keep?

Before the visit ends, find out how to ask another question and what later care will cost.

Words on the paperwork

Follow-up

A later check-in about how care is going.

Referral

A handoff to another care professional.
